Girls, my trip to B&N was fruitful indeed! I thumbed through dozens of books, and yes I was "that woman" sitting on the floor surrounded by books. :) I found lots of cool stuff but mostly I realized that Character Makeover is (a) loooong and (b) super involved. It looks great but it's a big hunk of a book! Way too big to tackle in one month so...we are reading something else.
A Woman and Her God is a compilation of pieces by several of today's "most beloved Christian communicators," it's a short (169 page) paperback chock full of meaty topics that go nicely along with Novembers theme of nobility & purity. When you think about it, can a woman (or a man) truly know these things apart from a deep understanding of the God who defined them and gives us the power to possess them? This book reinforces the idea that once a woman's heart fully belongs to God, then and only then can she fully possess Godly traits, the beginning traits being nobility (stemming from an understanding of her daughtership in relation to her King) and purity (resulting from the replacement of her earthly nature with the nature of the pure lover of her soul). Let's dive in. This isn't a self-help book, it's a reminder that each of us are reliant, completely and beautifully, on God-help. We are flawed women loved not in spite of our need for help but because of it. And the One who loves us with such unconditional passion is the same One who empowers us to grow, develop, and enjoy the new creations that we are. Love is a safe place and understanding that place, that relationship, will inspire us to trust Him so totally. Nobility and purity will flow into us as we understand how God defines me, and when I - IF I - can believe that it's really true then I'll be able and eager to exhibit it outwardly. Makes sense, right?
Did God create you to be noble & pure? You bet. Do you want to know what He says about who you are & how He sees you, so convincingly that you'll long to and then begin to see yourself in the same way? I know I do.
